May 2008

The beginning of May was fairly calm for us - we just got to enjoy being at home and doing fun things locally! Also, you may notice that Meredith is often holding a small toy, usually a Pablo figure from the Backyardigans, her favorite show, but sometimes it is a small rubber duck or some other small item - lately, these are her comfort objects and she takes them everywhere and sleeps with them. She will hold them so tightly for hours that her hand is sweaty from gripping them. Hey, I would rather her carry around something small and easy to clean!

This was the last picture we took before the old camera pooped out. Meredith skipped a nap and then fell asleep on the floor later that day. I thought it was so cute! It turns out that she was sick - I should have known that something was wrong when she fell asleep on the floor!

As I mentioned earlier, I got a new camera for Mother's Day - yeah! It is great! We are trying it out here.

We went shopping and Meredith saw cheese "popcorn" (puffcorn) and insisted on having it right then - I had to get a picture. It is not the first time we have had to open food in a store for her, and I'm sure it won't be the last.

Mimi and Papa Reaves came over to our house the day before Mother's Day for dinner. Mimi and Meredith are playing in the playroom with Meredith's purse. You can see Meredith is putting on her lipstick.

While we were at church on Mother's Day, Meredith fell asleep in the nursery. That was our first clue something was wrong. It turns out, she had picked up a little virus that turned into an ear infection - nothing unusual. So this was how we spent Mother's Day - she had such a high fever that we couldn't get her to settle down in her bed but she couldn't stay awake either, so Todd laid down with her in our bed and they slept most of the afternoon that way. I just tried to be quiet in the other room. Happy Mother's Day!

WE LOVE KID CITY!!!

After a round of antibiotics she was feeling much better and we went to Kid City to play with some of the kids from MOMS Club. Kid City is an inflatable jumping place in Daphne. They have open play for preschoolers on Friday mornings and we have become frequent guests there - she absolutely loves it. This day I finally remembered my camera.

Meredith and William are climbing the ladders. By the way, they had a funky socks contest that day, which Meredith won - I just don't want you to think I can't match her outfits!

She is very good at climbing on almost everything there...

...and here she comes down the slide!

She is sitting on top of one of the "boxing" gloves

Afterwards we went to Chick-fil-A for lunch with MOMS club. Surprisingly, it was uneventful, and maybe even...pleasant? Not many restaurant meals go smoothly with her anymore.

She is climbing everywhere at home too. She pushes her stool all around the house to help give her a boost when she needs it. Notice she still has Pablo in her hand.

Every now and then she will look right at the camera and smile normally for me - only every now and then!

Pretty soon she will be too tall to go under this table!

She is eating a banana, which she loves - which is great, but it makes walking past the banana display at the grocery store a real ordeal!

She is great at removing clothes, but this is about as far as she can get with putting them back on again! Notice that she is also already wearing clothes in this picture - but that doesn't matter to her.

We went to story time at the Daphne Library for the first time in May. It went better than I thought it would, although to say that she paid any attention to the story would be entirely untrue. However, they did have music and a craft and she liked that part a lot. It is something we will have to work on. Afterwards, we went to the children's section of the library where they have a train table (she loves train tables), puzzles, and toys, in addition to the books. Notice, she still has Pablo in hand. She is sitting at the train table and telling me about something important.

Meredith and William are playing with the trains (and some dinosaurs?)

Back at home, she was very pleased with herself for this feat. She arranged the furniture herself and climbed up there with no assistance from anyone.

On another day, we went to the Davidson's house to play. William and Meredith are playing in the sandbox, while Hannah and Emily look on. Meredith had a fixation this day with eating sand - it drove Mom crazy!

She didn't spend too much time in the sandbox, though - she was off and climbing the swingset before too long!

She really enjoys slides!

She always has a lot to say!

The week of Meredith's birthday, Great-Aunt Martha came down to see us. She brought Meredith a bag of toys to play with. She was just waking up from a nap and was not sure about things.

After a while she became really interested in the items.

Her actual birthday was on a Thursday. Martha took Meredith, me, and Aunt Lauren (who arrived that day) out to lunch for our birthdays, which are all within two weeks of each other. Meredith is getting ready to go to lunch and telling me about her dress.

We went to the Oyster House. One of the many ways we got through lunch with her is to let her wear her sun hat.

Hi Lauren!

And now we have the other hat on...anything to make it through without a tantrum!

She did pretty well at lunch. Afterward, we played at the playground at the Oyster House.

She thought it was pretty fun!

Later that day, we let Meredith look at her cards and open one present.

It was a Miss Spider pop-up playhouse. She had a ball in it (and still is!)

It is quite a lot bigger than I thought it was - adults can even fit in it, as shown by Lauren here

I guess that's it for this post! I promise birthday party pictures are coming soon!

First Beach Trip!

The weekend after the wedding (and the master's) some of the Aycocks came down to their beach condo. We met for dinner at Felix's on Friday night. We had a good time (thank goodness for the small private room with a door you can close and the loud music coming from the bar!). Meredith and Price could run around and be loud, and couldn't get out, so we all could sit and enjoy dinner!

Papa and Mimi with Meredith. Lindsay Aycock, Todd, and I were also there.

On Sunday Todd had to work on some presentations so Meredith and I went over to the beach for the day to hang out with the Aycocks. She is in the condo - ready to go with her cover-up, and of course, the sun hat.

Meredith ran for the water and didn't stop. This was her first trip to the beach (not many of those in Germany! And we didn't move here until the end of the summer last year). She LOVED it - she is officially a beach maniac.

She was wild!

Price and Meredith had a lot of fun. She was constantly running from the sand to the water, back and forth.

She stopped every now and then to play with sand toys.

They had fun playing with the boat in the waves

Well that is most of April! Now I have to figure out the new camera and load those to catch up to the end of May...

Prather's Baptism

Wow, I am already caught up to April on my posting! Just one month behind now!

The first weekend in April we went to Auburn for our nephew's Baptism at Auburn United Methodist Church, the same place Meredith was baptised.

Dave, Joanna, and Prather

George Mathison with Joanna, Prather, and Dave

So sweet! He is seven months old here.

Prather's family! Pictured are (in no particular order): Dave, Joanna, and Prather; Joanna's parents; Joanna's brother, his wife, and two of their four children; Joanna's sister, her husband, and their three children; Dave and Todd's parents; Todd, Meredith, and I; and Todd and Dave's cousin, her husband, and their two children. Whew!

Afterwards the whole crew went back to Joanna and Dave's house for a wonderful brunch. Meredith used real silver and did very well! We didn't trust her with real china, though.

Say "cheese"!

Two of Joanna's nieces took Prather and Meredith for a walk. Prather enjoyed it; Meredith quickly fell asleep (which we all enjoyed!)

This is later the next week at home. Meredith loves to wear our shoes. She does pretty well - these have heels!

The next weekend, Todd and Dave went to Augusta, Georgia to the Master's Tournament. Meanwhile, Lauren came to see Meredith and I and we all went to Ashley (Hood) Gunn's wedding. Meredith kept mom and Aunt Lauren on the run the whole time. This was a rare still moment.

Ashley had bubbles to blow as the bride and groom left the reception. Meredith and Lauren had a GREAT time playing with the bubbles!

Meredith wants to take a picture. Of course the camera is backwards.

More shoe-wearing...she has her crocs on and then she has my crocs on over them! And again with the hat...she insists on wearing her "sun" hat all the time, even when there is no sun in sight - indoors, outside in the dark, inside stores, overcast days...she loves it.

I will take a moment here to address the state of some of the pictures. Our trusty digital camera that we have had more than 4 years started acting up right after my trip to New York and finally bit the dust in April. In the meantime, many of our pictures have a purplish tint to them. It also messed up a lot so I have been borrowing pictures from some family and friends' albums - so if you see your pictures here you will know why! Thanks! And don't worry, you that like to complain about the blog not being updated enough (you all know who you are) - I will not be able to use this as an excuse not to post - I got a new camera for Mother's Day so I am taking pictures all the time!
